• PhD or other terminal degree is required

• Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines
• min. 2-5 months, spread over 2 consecutive years

Approximately 8 grants are available total (or more if shorter grant durations prevail).

• Incidental allowance of Euro 100 per month
• Connecting Travel and Baggage allowance of Euro 250 (lump-sum)
• International travel for scholar only. (according to the guidelines set by the Commission)
• For Flex grants: One international round-trip travel allowance will be provided for scholar only.
• Current German visa regulations require a valid passport for American grantees traveling to Germany. The Fulbright Commission assists its grantees in applying for a residence permit after arrival.
• Orientation and mid-year meeting, if within grant period
• Health insurance through a German policy
• Administrative and academic support through the Fulbright Commission in Germany
• A monthly spouse allowance of Euro 276 where applicable
• Fulbright benefits form the Commission are tax-exempt in Germany

• Euro 3,600 per month for applicants holding their PhD or equivalent degree for five or more years by the application deadline
• Euro 3,000 per month for applicants holding their PhD or equivalent degree for less than five years by the application deadline
